Aging In Place

Working in
collaboration
with Torrance
Kiwanis and
the city of
Torrance, a
heartwarming
story was
about to
begin; a
Home
Makeover for
a disabled
Torrance
senior.
Mission:
To support independent living for
disabled low-income seniors in the
South Bay.

Goal:
To provide a safe and accessible
home through remodeling in a manner
that enhances quality of life and
promotes independent living.

Objectives:
Support healthy aging and
independent living for low-income,
disabled seniors.

Educating the Community about
housing modification issues of
low-income, disabled seniors and the
work of Aging In Place.

Developing community partnerships for
rehabilitating owner-occupied houses
of low-income seniors in the community.
Raising funds for the works of Aging In
Place
Hugh is a stroke victim who was selected for a home
makeover by Aging In Place.  His long time home had
architectural barriers that hindered Hughs comfort and
ability to live safely.

The Aging In Place design team moved walls, gave him a
shower that he can use and made other modifications that
physically challenged seniors require.  These changes will
enable Hugh to live comfortably and remain in the
community with his many long time friends.
Aging In Place is a community project
of ASID Los Angeles Chapter
Photo's from the
Key Presentation.
This was the first
time Hugh has
been in his home
since the project
started.
Letters were collected from seniors who wrote in
asking for the makeover.  Hugh Finley simple wrote "I
would like to be able to take a shower".  This
heartwarming request was our winner.

The main features of this bathroom is a level floor
shower with a seat and many options for shower
sprays, a toilet with sensors that open and close the lid
in addition to several cleansing options with a dryer.
New Kitchen
with all new
silver ware,
glasses,
